3 Kings - Another January Event...

After New Year's Day, Mexican families have a very special day to commemorate and enjoy. On January 6, most of the Hispanic world celebrates El Dia De Reyes, the Epiphany, remembering the day when the Three Wise Men following the star to Bethlehem, arrived bearing their treasured gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh for the Baby Jesus.

Well, the Vargas/Weitzel family celebrates - and we were there!! It was so much fun celebrating this fun holiday with them. They went to a Mexican Bakery which had prepared a Rosca de Reyes, an oval sweetbread, decorated with candied fruit. Hidden inside this delicious Rosca, was multiple plastic figurines of the Baby Jesus. The Baby is hidden because it symbolizes the need to find a safe and secure place where Jesus could be born, where King Herod would not be able to find Him.
Each person cut a slice of the Rosca . The knife symbolizes the danger in which the Baby Jesus was in. One by one we each carefully inspected our slice, hoping we didn't get a figurine.

It was a really enjoyable evening - we love that family! As you can see - there were 7 plastic figurines in the Rosca. Our family, we got 6 of them! Can you believe it!!! (I got one also - but I was taking the picture - so I couldn't show you!)

We love hanging out with their family - we always have such a great time and so much fun!
